Into the Solar Array

Here’s a chance, in the words of John Lennon, to turn off your mind, relax and float downstream. A journey into a solar array.

This was part of the last project I was able to film and photograph. Local to me, outdoors, and social distance friendly for my assistant and I as well as for others. It was just one element of work documenting Princeton’s University’s campus via drone in both video and still images.

Solar Array on YouTube, Vimeo and Instagram.

Music: Barracuda by Drug Cabin, licensed via The Music Bed.

The clips used in Solar Array were filmed for Princeton University as part of a campus-wide aerial project to create a video library of b-roll clips and an archive of still images. Used with permission. I am a FAA certified drone pilot.

I filmed with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone in 4K 10-bit DLog-M. Neutral Density filters were used to control the light, filming at an optimal aperture of f/5.6 while maintaining a 180° shutter angle. The video clips were converted from Log and de-barrelized in FCPX.

The video begins with standard views which become increasingly multi-layered and fractal as the video progresses.

Thanks – be safe, think of others, and social distance!
