Making New Jersey Healthier Together

In my last post we met Dotty, whose family received help fighting opioid abuse from Community in Crisis, a Horizon Foundation for New Jersey grantee. Now, let’s meet Angel, David, Lori, and Quatiyyah. They, like Dotty, received aid and improved their lives through the help of Horizon Foundation grantees.

The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey 2018 Grantee Video on Vimeo and YouTube.

This is the culmination of a wonderful project produced in partnership with Taft Communications and The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey. The video above is one of five and it is a compilation of four individual grantee social media videos along with the addition of a fifth grantee.

The fifth grantee is Quatiyyah, pictured in the video thumbnail. When Quatiyyah became pregnant during college she felt unprepared and unsure. She turned to The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey and received the help she needed.

What separates a social media video from a regular video? A social media video is shorter, in this case each one is about 42 seconds, and it has open captions so that the voiceover can be read as well as heard.

Here are the individual social media videos:

Horizon Foundation Grantee: Greater Newark Conservancy on Vimeo and YouTube.

After being diagnosed with diabetes, Angel needed the tools to lead a healthier lifestyle. He found them through the Greater Newark Conservancy’s Nutrition Education Program.

Horizon Foundation Grantee: After-School All-Stars on Vimeo and YouTube.

David’s life was changed through the help of After-School All-Stars “Sports as a Hook” initiative. Now he’s charting a path for success at school and enjoying a healthier lifestyle.

Horizon Foundation Grantee: Food Bank of South Jersey on Vimeo and YouTube.

The Food Bank of South Jersey’s class, Eating Well & Diabetes, got Lori’s attention. She started attending classes and now she is eating healthier, enjoying cooking for herself and others, and her diabetes has improved.

And from my previous blog post, Dotty:

Horizon Foundation Grantee: Community in Crisis on Vimeo and YouTube.

When opioid abuse struck home, Dotty turned to Community in Crisis for help. Now she’s there for others as well.

This project was not only video, it had a stills element, too. I created portraits along with the videos. The portraits for each grantee are seen in the thumbnails above but there was one more grantee I photographed, CompleteCare. I worked their client, Yvonne Murphy, a school bus driver in Bridgeton, NJ.

When a spike in blood sugar could have jeopardized Yvonne Murphy’s job as a school bus driver, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey grantee, CompleteCare, put her on track with a treatment plan. Bridgeton, NJ. June, 2018.

I will follow up with behind the scenes and some production notes in a forthcoming blog post.
