Ice House!

It’s spring! Two days in and fresh snow is still on the ground… so, what better time to tell you about the ice house project.

It began on Wednesday night, January 31st, and carried through Friday, February 2nd. My client, NJ SHARES, was celebrating its 20th anniversary and to commemorate the occasion they created a Cool Down for Warmth house made from 15 tons of ice on Championship Plaza, adjacent to the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.

I was commissioned to document the construction of the ice house in both video and still images, cover the celebration, and provide films and photos for media use during the event and after.

NJ SHARES provides energy assistance to those in need in New Jersey. Since its founding in 1998 it has distributed $74 million in grants, programs and outreach which has improved the lives of more than 182,000 families.

Here is the film celebrating NJ SHARES’ 20th Anniversary:

I’ll do a followup post with information about the tools and techniques used during the project. If you are curious about the build, it took ice sculptors Bette and Eddie Jarrett approximately fifteen hours to construct the 14′ x 18′ house.

Thanks to NJ SHARES and congrats on twenty years! You can support their great work here.

Thanks, too, to my crew – Chris Flanegan on stills and Ivan Guzman assisting me with video.
